Ferrate(VI):Novel Compound for Removal of Natural Organic Matter in Water
Polluted water should be effectively treated to support the sustainable water supply system; however, currently available treatment technologies do not adequately address the pollution problems.Ferrate (FeVIO42-,Fe(Ⅵ)) is a versatile green chemistry compound to sustain the water supply. The byproducts of its use are nontoxic iron oxides and oxygen. The efficiency of ferrate in removing dissolved organic matter is higher than that of traditional coagulants such as ferric chloride and alum.Ferrate preoxidation enhanced the coagulation of humic acids and algae. This paper presents examples of the effectiveness of the novel ferrate treatment technology in the removal of dissolved organic matter from contaminated water.
