Variation of Part Thickness in Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (Vartm) Undergone the Post Filling Process
The post-filling is usually conducted in industry to increase the chances of infusing any remaining dry patches for improving the process reliability in the vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) process. In this paper,an experimental procedure was designed to real-time monitor the preform thickness change throughout the VARTM infusion process. Two kinds of resin with different viscosity were infused with different post-filling time. The change behavior in preform thickness undergone the post-filling was studied. And the effect of the post-filling time and the resin viscosity on the part thickness was investigated. The result indicated the final part thickness varies with the post-filling time in a similar sinusoid form.In addition, the post-filling should overtime for the greatest fiber volume fraction, and the greatest fiber volume fraction is higher, when the resin with higher viscosity was infused.
