Buckling Analysis of Carbon Nanotubes as Afm Probes Based on a Continuum Model
The DWCNTs with inner and outer tubes of different lengths AFM probes are proposed to increase stability of AFM nanoprobes and to obtain small tip diameter.Euler–Bernoulli beam and nanobeam models are developed to analyze the critical buckling stress of cantilevered DWCNTs with inner and outer tubes of different lengths. The preparation of DWCNTs with a short nanotube wall has been achieved by oxidation using carbon dioxide, and burning the outer wall by an electric current. This makes the buckling investigation of DWCNTs with different wall lengths significant from both theoretical and practical perspectives.
