Structural Evolvement of the Cured Carborane containing Poly During the Pyrolysis Process

A novel SiC/B4C/C nanocomposite has been obtained by pyrolyzing a carborane-containing poly(dimethylsilylene-ethynylenephenyleneethynylene) (CB-PSEPE) in argon. In this paper, elemental analysis and the X-ray diffraction were employed to investigate the structural evolvement of the thermosets during the pyrolysis process.Elemental analysis shows that the elemental compositions of the pyrolysis products remain basically constant above 1100℃.The X-ray diffraction analysis demonstrates that β-SiC crystals occur at 1100°C,B4C crystals emerge at 1300℃,and the amorphous carbon gradually transforms into graphitic carbon during the pyrolysis process at over 1000℃.
