MODELING OF SUCTION LINE HEAT EXCHANGER FOR R134a MOBILE AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEM

A computer model was developed for a tube-in-tube suction line heat exchanger and validated with experimental data.A parametric study was conducted to investigate the effects of the suction line heat exchanger design variables, and found that the suction line heat exchanger length is the most important design variable. After simulating the effect of the suction line heat exchanger design variables on its performance, its design was finalized. The performance of an R-134a mobile air-conditioning system was tested in the bench test facility with and without a 0.5m long suction line heat exchanger.Test results have shown that the suction line heat exchanger can noticeably improve the efficiency of an R-134a cycle. The improvement of an R-134a system by a suction line heat exchanger was measured as 3% and 4% for the cooling capacity and COP,respectively.
