VISUALIZATION AND INTERNAL PRESSURE MEASUREMENT OF HORIZONTAL SCREW TYPE ICE SLURRY MAKER TUBE
The propylene glycol solution flowing through the pipe in the horizontal ice slurry maker,with the fall of temperature because of the evaporation of the refrigerant existing outside the horizontal pipe,is transformed into ice slurry.At this time,the screw located within the horizontal pipe keeps on rotating,pushing the formed ice slurry out.If the screw stops functioning on account of a motor failure etc.,the already-formed ice slurry is stuck within the pipe and can become more solid ice.In order to check whether,in this kind of situation,the already-formed ice slurry is likely to damage the pipe,this study carried out the measurement of the pressure rise and performed a visualization experiment to observe the process.With one side of the ice slurry maker pipe,within the pipe the screw was stopped,closed with a valve and the other side left open,when the temperature gradually dropped and freezing occurred inside the slurry maker,the resulting volume expansion and the pressure at the closed part were measured.The extent of measured pressure rise and the allowable pressure of the adopted pipe were compared and the possibility of damage by freezing was investigated.
