EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON FLOW BOILING HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT AND PRESSURE DROP IN MULTIPORT EXTRUDED TUBES AT LOW MASS FLUX REGION

The flow boiling heat transfer and pressure drop of refrigerant R410A in vertically placed multiport extruded tubes were experimentally investigated. The hydraulic diameters of the test tubes were 1.54 mm and 0.90 mm.The local heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop were measured at heat fluxes of 2–16 kW/m2,at mass fluxes of 15-120 kg/(m2s),and at an evaporating temperature of 15℃.It is found that the local heat transfer coefficient under present experimental conditions remains almost constant with vapor quality, except at a lower vapor quality or in a post dryout region. The results imply that the flow boiling heat transfer in miniature multiport tubes is dominated by nucleate boiling rather than by convective heat transfer. The pressure drop value obtained in this study was extremely less as compared to that obtained in conventional studies; this was because of the low flow rates in this experiment.
