Comparison of Toxicity Induced by Single-Wall and Multi-Wall Carbon Nanotubes by Using of Plasmid DNA Assay
Bioreactivity of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) was assessed by using of plasmid DNA assay and morphological variation of neural stem cells. The results of plasmid DNA assay showed that 48.5% and 21.1% of supercoiled DNA damage caused by SWNTs and MWNTs respectively at the same concentration.Cellular activity results testified that cytotoxicity of SWNTs was stronger than that of MWNTs.The different bioreactivity of the two kinds of nanocarbontubes might caused by the higher mass level of heavy elements embodied in the SWNCTs.
