Recovery of Zn-Bearing Blast Furnace Dust by Alkaline Extraction

This study evaluates the efficiency of extracting of zinc from blast furnace dust via alkaline leaching.Effects of several leaching variables,i.e.leaching time,NaOH concentration, phase ratios (liquid/solid),temperature and on zinc recovery (%) were investigated. It was found that over 94.62% of Zn can be extracted from blast furnace dust when the leaching process is operated in 6 mol/L NaOH at 90 ℃,10/1 liquid/solid ratio, and 90 min leaching time.Zinc powder with purity of 99.7% can be obtained by electrowinning after Pb and other metal ions in the leaching solution were removed by sulfide precipitation. After the Zn was recovered, the Fe and C in dusts can be recycled in the blast.
