Exploring Spatiotemporal Variation of Water Quality in the North River Reach of the Jiulong River Basin
Using multivariate statistical analysis, spatiotemporal variation of water quality in the North River reach of the Jiulong River basin was explored in this study based on the water quality data from 10 gauge stations monitored by Fujian Environmental Protection Bureau (2006-2008) and 17 outlets of sub-watersheds via in-situ samplings during 2009-2011.The water quality in the North River reach of the Jiulong River displays an obvious spatiotemporal variability. The water quality in the wet season is better than other period due to dilution effect by increasing runoff. The water quality in the N1 gauge station has a poor water quality which is consistent with the spatial variations of water quality in the 17 subwatersheds.NDVI,slope and land use pattern were recognized as the important factors influencing the water quality. The findings of this study enable us to gain in-depth understanding of the spatiotemporal variability of water quality in the North River reach of the Jiulong River basin.
