Characteristics of Bathing Wastewater and Its Reclamation with Anoxic-Aerobic Membrane Bioreactor (AO-MBR) Process

Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) wastewater treatment technology is being successfully used for treating wastewater. The aims of this research were to investigate the performance of a full-scale anoxic-aerobic MBR (AO-MBR) for treating bathing wastewater and to evaluate the feasibility of using the treated wastewater. To achieve these goals, bathing wastewater was treated by an AO-MBR system with a capacity of 120 m3 d-1.The water quality of influent and effluent were monitored and evaluated for different reuse purposes. The obtained results showed that the use of AO-MBR for wastewater treatment is sufficient to remove chemical oxygen demand (COD),nitrite (NO-2-H),ammonium (NH4+-N) and turbidity with average values of 92.0%,89.66%,88.1 and 99.21%,respectively.Moreover,the values of PH,Total dissolved solids (TDS),and dissolved oxygen (DO) meet the Chineses water quality standards for reclamation (GB/T18920-2002,GB/T 18921-2002).For the AO-MBR performance, the removal efficiencies of the study parameters were stable during the experimental period. We concluded that AO-MBR is a suitable and reliable process to treat bathing wastewater for water reuse.
