Dietary Fibre-Developments in Definition,Analysis and Nutrition and Health Effects of Cereal and Other Fibres
After decades of discussion Codex Alimentarius defined in 2008/09 dietaty fibre as (in short)non-digestible carbohydrate polymers,a) naturally occurring in food b)isolated from food raw materials and c) synthetic; b) and c) type materials can only be called fibre when their health benefits are demonstrated by generally accepted scientific evidence.National authorities can decide to include carbohydrates with>2 or with>9 monomeric units.Many countries have adopted the Codex definition,most of them with DP>2.
