An Application of Random Effects Panel Logit Model on Location Choices:Evidence from Value Chain of Automobile TNCs in China
Using the database of TNCs listing in 2010 Fortune 500,this paper employs random effects panel Iogit model to test empirically the main determinants of location choices conducted by 183 affiliates of automobile manufacturing fragment,25 affiliates of automobile R&D fragment and 107 affiliates of automobile operational fragment within 30 provinces over the period 1994-2010.The results show that market effects,human resources and agglomeration effects are the common location determinants of value chain of the automobile TNCs.The communication ability and well-developed service industries are more important determining factors to automobile R&D activities.And the wage level,port location distribution,institutional factors and transportation capacity are the most important location determinants to automobile manufacturing fragment.The operational branches of the Automobile TNCs in China are tending to relocate where location factors,policy factors and financial completeness are in good condition.
