Mineralogical studies of the Getashankou Ni-Cu sulfide-bearing mafic-ultramafic intrusions in eastern Tianshan,NW China and its implications
The newly-discovered Getashankou Ni-Cu sulfide-bearing mafic-ultramafic intrusions in the eastern Tianshan,NW-China is controlled by the secondary fracture of the Kanggur-Huangshan ductile shear fracutre zone. The intrusions consist of hornblende lherzolite, hornblende olivine websterite, gabbro, hornblende gabbro and olivine gabbro.Based on the electron probe and scanning electron microscope analysis of olivine, pyroxene, hornblende and sulfide for different types of rocks, the olivine is chrysolite, and the average contents of MgO and nickel are 44.1 wt% and 1918 ppm (rang from 1273 to 2719 ppm),respectively.Orthopyroxene is clinoenstatite and the clinopyroxene is diopside. The Al2O3 and TiO2 contents of clinopyroxene indicate that the parental magma of Getashankou mafic-ultramafic intrusions is calc-alkaline basaltic magma. The Mg/(Mg+Fe) ratios of hornblende vary from 0.68 to 0.85,which indicates that the Getashankou intrusions originate from the upper mantle.During the magma evolution and crystallizaiton process, the property of magma changes from magnesium-enrichment to iron-enrichment.The magnetite border which around the metal sulfide may be the result of the post-magma high temperature hydrothermal function.
