A new type of magmatic sulfide deposit associated with boninitic magmatism in arc setting:The Erbuto Ni-Cu deposit from the Central Asian Orogenic Belt,Inner Mongolia

The Erbuto Ni-Cu deposit is hosted in a small ultramafic intrusion located in the southern margin of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt,Inner Mongolia. It is the first known economic magmatic sulfide deposit associated with an olivine-clinoenstatite cumulate body formed by boninitic magma in the world.SHRIMP zircon U-Pb dating reveals a crystallization age of ~294 Ma for the intrusion, corresponding to the late stages of oceanic subduction in the region. The ultramafic rocks from this intrusion are characterized by significant enrichments of LREE relative to HREE and pronounced negative Nb-Ta anomalies. The δ34S values of disseminated sulfide ores in the intrusion are 4 to 5 per mil, indicating the involvement of crustal sulfur in ore formation.
