Text Analysis from the Prespective of Cohesion and Implications for English Language Teaching
Cohesion is an important aspect in the text analysis,for it makes a certain text a unified whole through the texture established by the cohesive ties throughout the sentence boundaries.Many researches have been done in this field since the publication of Cohesion in English by Halliday and Hasan in 1976.Although different standpoints have come out,the theory of cohesion is still worth further studying in view of its great importance in forming a text.Using a text taken from Cambridge IELTS as a basis,this paper attempts to analysize it from the perspective of cohesion,with help of different cohesive devices,and give some implications for English language teaching.The paper will first present a description of the principles of cohesion and then analysize the chosen text in light of the framework mentioned in the first part so that some implications can be drawn for English language teaching.
