EFFICIENT AND LOW ENERGY MARINE BIOMASS DRYING IMPLEMENTING EXERGY RECOVERY TECHNOLOGY
A widespread utilization of marine biomass as raw material and energy resources demands an innovative production technology with high energy efficiency to be able to increase its economic competitiveness. In this work,a drying system designed for marine biomass with very low energy consumption has been designed and evaluated. The proposed drying process has been developed based on the concept of exergy recovery which is able to recover almost the exergy of the hot stream and utilized it for the subsequent drying process. In exergy recovery technology, the exergy rate of the exhausted steam is elevated by compression and,in addition,an optimal heat pairing for each sensible and latent heat is performed. In the study, two drying processes developed based on exergy recovery, without and with steam recirculation, have been proposed. As the result, the proposed drying system could reduce the energy required for drying drastically by about 70% of that required in conventional heat recovery drying system.
