MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF FLUIDIZED BED SPRAY DRYING AGGLOMERATES BY X-RAY TOMOGRAPHY
The dependence of the internal morphology of agglomerates produced in a spray fluidized bed dryer on the operating conditions – drying rate and binder mass fraction – was investigated by means of X-ray μ-computed tomography.Sequences of image processing provide access to the concealed structure of the agglomerates.Morphological descriptors were derived based on 3D data.Emphasis was put on the spatial position of primary particles, including evaluation of the radial distribution of primary particle centers and the distribution of coordination angles.Three different approaches for measuring porosity were introduced.Values and the behavior of morphological descriptors are presented and discussed for different agglomerates.
