HEAT PUMP ATMOSPHERIC FREEZE AND NON-FREEZE DRYING:MODELING AND VALIDATION WITH LABORATORY DATA

Atmospheric freeze drying is an innovative and competitive technology for production high quality and properties dried foods at lower prices and lower energy consumption. This new drying technology requires modeling and simulation, which are essential steps in pilot and industrial design of this new drying process. The most important parameters for modeling are temperature, relative humidity, residence time, load of material, heat and mass transfer properties. The study of these variables is important for understanding changes in product properties and fundamental for designing and dimensioning pilot and large scale drying processes. This work covers kinetics and drying rates modeling and validation of predictions by comparison with laboratory measurements.
