MODELING THE EFFECT OF PROCESS PARAMETERS IN AGGREGATION KERNEL OF PBE USING MONTE-CARLO SIMULATIONS

Aggregation kernel of 1-dimensional pure agglomeration population balance equation (PBE) is modeled by observing simplified micro-scale constant number Monte- Carlo (MC) simulations of spray fluidized bed granulation (SFBG).Effect of microprocesses of SFBG such as particle collision, droplet deposition and droplet drying are incorporated in the aggregation kernel by taking into account the probabilities of wet collision and adhesion. The aggregation kernel is found to be directly correlated with the total collision frequency per particle (fc),total number of wet particles (Nwet),total number of particles (Ntot),average wet surface fraction (η) and success fraction of dissipation of kinetic energy (ψ).The derived expression of aggregation kernel is computed using the extracted information from MC and compared with the extracted aggregation efficiency of MC for validation.Furthermore,a population balance model involving the derived expression for aggregation kernel is also presented to compute Nwet and Ntot without taking any help from MC.The results of this model such as particle size distribution,Nwet and Ntot is found to be comparable with the corresponding MC simulations.
