MODELLING OF HEAT TRANSFER IN A COOLING AIR JACKET OF SPRAY DRYER

Numerical modelling of heat transfer in the cooling air jacket of a spray dryer was achieved by using computational fluid dynamic method and k-ε standard model was considered for turbulence simulation.Velocity magnitude and temperature variation in the chamber and cooling air jacket were investigated in this modelling. On the other hand, velocity and temperature variation in different height of chamber were measured by a portable hot wire anemometer and some installed transmitters on dryer wall; respectively in order to verify the numerical modelling results. In accordance with the flow path line in the jacket, air layers had a harmonic motion to each other with minimum axial velocity variation. Therefore, air velocity in the axes had the maximum value. In conjunction between the cylindrical and the conical parts of dryer jacket, there is a bit flow deviation toward the wall.In the dryer axis, temperature had the maximum value and decreased from the core toward the dryer air jacket.
