FREEZE-DRYING MONITORING USING A NEW PROCESS ANALYTICAL TECHNOLOGY:TOWARD A ZERO DEFECT PROCESS

　　New Process Analytical Technologies are required to monitor a vial freezedrying process for pharmaceuticals,with the goal to guarantee product quality.An innovative Soft-Sensor for process monitoring is proposed.It uses a mathematical model of the process and the product temperature measurements by inserting a thermocouple in the vial.The Soft-Sensor is able to estimate the residual ice content in the vial and the values of the heat and the mass transfer coefficients,extending also the estimations till the end of the primary drying.Moreover,the use of this tool allows to take into account the non-uniformity of the batch.
