DRYING OF PASTES IN A VIBROFLUIDIZED BED DURING THE TRANSIENT PERIOD

Tthis work aims to investigate the drying of different pastes in vibrofluidized beds with inert particles during the transient interval and to evaluate the effects of vibration parameters on the bed dynamics,as well as the feasibility of bed operation with this kind of materials. The experiments were carried out at temperatures of 80 oC and 100 oC and air velocities 20% and 40% greater than minimum fluidization velocity (Umf) with 6 different pastes: water (used in preliminary tests to simulate the presence of liquid in the bed in order to better understand the drying process),sewage sludge, skimmed milk, and calcium carbonate of three different solids content,3,6 and 9%.Through preliminary tests involving water evaporation, the best operation conditions were established at 100 oC and Us = 1.4Umf.The bed dynamic and the process efficiency concerning the dried product were affected by the amplitude and frequency of vibration. The use of vibration with the pneumatic action of the fluidized bed can provide more favorable conditions for the drying of pastes that are difficult to fluidize.
