OPTIMIZATION OF SPRAY DRYING OF PHYTOPHARMACEUTICAL PREPARATIONS FROM Bidens pilosa L.BY RESPONSE SURFACE METHODOLOGY
Spray drying is a common technique employed to obtain solid active phytopharmaceutical ingredients from medicinal plants.Bidens pilosa L.is a South American plant with proved antimalaric, antitumoral and hepatoprotective activity. The aim of this work was to optimize the drying conditions: inlet drying temperature (Tge),plant extract feed flowrate (Ws) and feed composition. The responses evaluated were total flavonoid content, residual water content, water activity, flow properties, product recovery, drying efficiency, particle size and morphology.Experimental responses were fitted to mathematical models and permit the determination of optimum processing conditions: Aerosil?:Microcrystalline Cellulose (13:37 %),Ws of 8.95 mg/min and Tge of 155.2 ?C.
