POWDER COATING IN SUSPENDED STATE

  The aim of this paper was the development and testing of a powder coating system for pharmaceuticals,analyzing the effects of system configuration on fluid dynamics and solids flow patterns using model particles.The configuration parameters evaluated were the open area of the gas distributing plate and the presence or absence of a draft tube.Selected system configurations were tested for film coating application on glass beads (composition based on hydroxyl-ethyl-cellulose).The system configuration with internal draft tube and distributor open area ranging from 1.9 to 4.5% showed homogeneous solids circulation flow patterns.Product agglomeration and coating efficiency were significantly affected by particles size and operating conditions.
