PAPER DRYING UNDER PREHEATED METAL FABRIC
The objectives of this study were to analyze the heat transfer rate from the hot metal fabric to moist paper and to predict the effect of the preheated metal fabric on the drying rate.Drying tests were performed with metal fabrics preheated to temperatures 100 and 150 oC.The amount of water evaporated as well as paper and fabric temperatures were measured.Cooling of the metal fabric with rectangular yarns geometry was simulated.The benefits in dryer capacity increase were demonstrated by simulations of the full dryer section of a paper machine when conventional fabrics were replaced by preheated metal fabrics.
