COMPARISON OF DIFFERENT EVAPORATION RATE MODELS FOR DRYING OF A SINGLE WOOD PARTICLE
Drying process of single woody biomass particle is modeled using a multiphase porous media model which is coupled to different evaporation rates.Three different models; Equilibrium model,Heterogeneous reaction model and heat sink model, are used to model the evaporation rate.Resulting system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) from the models is solved using LIMEX solver in a FORTRAN based computer code. The models are validated with experimental results from the literature.Further comparisons between predictions and measurements are made for different conditions of external temperature, velocity of air flow and initial moisture over the conditions encountered in drying section of fixed-bed updraft gasifiers. The aim of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of these different evaporation rate models in considered conditions.
