ANALYSIS OF PVC SLURRIES DRYING BY THERMOGRAVIMETRY

A thermogravimetry analysis (TGA) was carried out to characterize the drying rates of different PVC (polyvinyl chloride) slurries containing beads with variable inner porosities. For all PVC grades we observe three stages of the water drying rates, which we ascribe to different types of water: free water in the slurry, water at the beads surface and water inside the pores. The different PVC grades show marked differences of the drying times of their inner pores. We analyze this result by comparing our results with numerical simulations of the drying rates in model pore systems with linear and curvilinear channels. The contribution of the physical chemical properties at the beads surface is also discussed.
