THERMO-DIFFUSION IN WOOD:X-RAY MC PROFILES ANALYSED USING A 2-D COMPUTATIONAL MODEL
In this work,an original experimental device has been designed and developed to measure the moisture content (MC) profiles with non-isothermal configurations.A permanent temperature gradient is imposed along the radial direction on two faces of the sample. Thanks to an x-ray chain, the MC field evolution is determined during the experiment by x-ray absorption through the sample width.During the calibration stage,we experimentally proved that the attenuation function can be applied either to lignocellulosic or water density, using a suitable weighted factor. The experimental data are analyzed using the 2-D version of TransPore,a comprehensive computational model able to solve the coupled heat and mass transfer in porous media. As main outcome,we proved that the driving force to be used for the binary diffusion of water vapor in air (the mass fraction of water vapor) allows the evolution of the MC profiles to be nicely predicted.
