MODELING HEAT PUMP DRYING:FROM PILOT SCALE TO COMMERCIAL PLANT

  High quality and properties of dried sensitive materials requires processing below the material freezing point.The drying is done by old vacuum freeze or new heat pump atmospheric freeze drying,which is a sustainable technology for high quality-efficiency and lower cost.Heat pump dryers were built and tested at NTNU and this work covers modeling for improved design,scale-up and refinements.The model accounts for environmentally friendly fluids,geometry and mass-heat transport between phases.It generates tables and graphs of capacity and energy and changes in properties of the refrigerant,air and water vapor in the drying and heat pump loops.
