FLUIDIZED BED COATING PROCESSES FOR SUSTAINED RELEASE APPLICATIONS - A COMPARATIVE CASE STUDY
Coating of particles is an essential process step for many manufacturing processes. For industrial coating applications a number of different processing options are available. In a comparative case study different coating principles based on fluidized beds were tested. All experiments were carried out on a modular ProCell-LabSystem.As a representative and comparative basis special model particles were produced. Therefore a spherical pellet was first coated with a model active substance.Afterwards the functional layer (sustained release layer) was added on the model particles using the 4 different processing options (Wurster-technique,top-spray,bottom-spray and rotor-processing).Additional to the coating principle also the processing conditions were varied.
