Education for Rural Transformation through Principals Professional Development in Indonesia

  A School principal is pivotal in ensuring the effectiveness of a school.The principal provides leadership,ensures implementation of district and national education policy,supervises teachers practice,and is ultimately responsible for ensuring that children in the school achieve their highest learning outcomes.Processes for selecting,training and appointing principals vary from country to country.In Indonesia recent changes in education policy has required a more sustained,strategic and professional approach to Principals Professional Development.With the assistance of the Australian Government through AusAID,a comprehensive programme of principal selection,training and professional development has begun.The approach envisages five levels of development,and at each stage a training programme is involved.The training approach utilized incorporates Competency Based.Training focused on workplace competency and workplace learning.Additionally,the models being developed apply contemporary principles of professional development through flexible and interaetive training resources.Preliminary results indicate the approach is appropriate,and successful.It is expected that the outcomes along with other significant changes in educational practices and educational administration will contribute to a transformation of Indonesian basic education.
