Evaluation on the Fruit Quality of Chinese-grown Pecan
The fruit qualities of five introduced pecan cultivars were investigated including fruit weight,fruit shape,kernel,shell thickness,lipid as well as fatty acid composition.The five cultivars were chosen because their common use in China.GC-MS method was used to measure fatty acid composition.Results showed a great change occurred in fruit quality after introduction.All cultivars decreased on fruit weight from 29% to 56% after being introduced.Kernels varied a lot after introduction too.The main compositional characteristic of the fatty acid was still the high lipid content with elevated concentration of oleic acid and linoleic acid but changed in proportion.These results suggested that genetic factors,ecological factors as well as growing techniques strongly influence the fruit quality of pecan cultivars.
