Effect of Sod-culture on Respiratory Metabolism of Apple Roots under Drought Stress

In order to explore the effect of sod-culture on respiratory metabolism of apple roots under drought stress,1-year-old potted ‘Hanfu apple trees were used as materials, and soil water content, proportion of fine roots, root respiratory rates, percentages of each root biochemical respiratory pathway and electron transport respiratory pathway were compared under 5 different sod-culture treatments, including Medicago sativa,Lolium perenne,Trifolium repens,Poa annua and spontaneous vegetation (clean cultivation as control) under drought stress. Results showed that EMP-TCA and CP still maintained the leading root respiratory pathways of Medicago sativa treatment under drought stress.Among biochemical respiratory pathways,TCA accounted for 45.88% of the total respiratory rate, having absolute predominance; while CP accounted for 50.85%,which was significantly higher than AP,guaranteeing the supply of higher energy and alleviating the damage of drought stress on the roots to some extent.
