THE INFLUENCE OF STEEL REINFORCEMENT ON CREEP AND SHRINKAGE OF CONCRETE COLUMNS

It becomes increasingly important for estimating creep and shrinkage accurately as resultes of the increasing high-rise reinforced concrete buildings.Steel reinforcements have a significant impact on the creep and shrinkage of concrete, which makes the estimation more complex and difficult. In this paper, the restraint effect of steel reinforcements was analyzed and the formulas to calculate time-dependent deformation and stress of axially compressed columns were derived.A case study was done to discuss the time dependent creep and shrinkage of columns according to CEB-FIPI990 code and GL2000 code. The deformation of columns with different reinforcement ratios was calculated according to GL2000 code.It is shown that, due to the existence of steel reinforcements, the 50 years deformation was decreased by about 10%-40%.To evaluate the validity of the theoretical derivation, the creep and shrinkage of RC column specimens with different reinforcement ratios was experimental investigated. The experimental resultes indicated that deformation reduction ratio induced by steel reinforcement was higher than the calculated values.
