NONLINEAR STATIC ANALYSIS OF SPACE TRUSSES USING VECTOR MECHANICS OF STRUCTURE
The nonlinear static behavior analysis of the structure is an important issue for structural analysis.Vector mechanics of structure (VMS) is a newly developed method for structural behavior analysis,especially for the computation of large deformation and large displacement,which involves the geometric nonlinearity,material nonlinearity and boundary nonlinearity.The structural behavior analysis using VMS is a kind of simulation for the reality.For static analysis,the loading rate should be very slow.In another way,we may add damping into the dynamic analysis for obtaining the static solutions.Furthermore,due to that explicit integration is deployed in VMS,the time increment for integration is critical for the computation convergence.Therefore,it is worthy to address the methods for a quick and efficient solution of static problems using VMS.This paper derives the analysis formulas for 3D rod element in VMS.The geometrical nonlinearity and the material nonlinearity are analyzed.The nonlinear behavior of a space truss is simulated,and the static solution is compared with the result by the finite element software ANSYS.The problems concerned in the numerical algorithm are discussed and a reference formula of the critical time increment for the space truss analysis is proposed.It proves that the method of VMS can achieve high accuracy for nonlinear static analysis,with the superiority of simple and systematical computation programming.The critical time increment obtained by the reference formula agrees well with the actual value.The computation efficiency for static solution could be enhanced by increasing the material density and damping factor.
