AN EFFICIENT ALGORITHM FOR THE PROBABILITY DENSITY EVOLUTION ANALYSIS OF STRONG NONLINEAR STRUCTURES
In structural engineering, how to tackle the randomness in various aspects is one of the most important issues to structural safety. The basic thought of physical stochastic systems provides a new approach to problems involving randomness. In this context, the probability density evolution method (PDEM) was developed and studied. In the present paper, the fundamentals of probability density evolution method (PDEM) are revisited firstly. Some new advances are outlined, including the concept of point evolution and ensemble evolution and the rank of an integral which can be used to clarify the difference between the cubature formula and PDEM.The quasi-symmetric point method and its improvement, the rotational quasi-symmetric point method, are introduced and exemplified.Problems to be further explored are outlined.
