PROGRESS IN APPLICATION AND RESEARCH OF HIGH STRENGTH STEEL STRUCTURES

  High strength steel structures have been increasingly used in the world.In China,more and more building structures began to apply 420MPa and 460MPa high strength steels,and some experimental and theoretical investigations were carried out.In this paper,recent engineering application and researches on high strength steel structures in China were reviewed,particularly the current research works in Tsinghua University,including the residual stress distribution of 420MPa steel welded round tube and column buckling behavior of the compression members,the residual stress test of 960MPa high strength steel welded I and box sections,the overall and local buckling behavior of 960MPa steel compression columns,and the behaivor of high strength steel plate shear connection.It was found that high strength steel structures had significant advantages in the mechanical performance and also some new features.This review could provide valuable information for further researches and design method of high strength steel structures.
