RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TIME-HISTORY CHARACTERISTICS OF INPUT ENERGY AND STRUCTURAL DISPLACEMENT RESPONSE IN SDOF SYSTEMS

  The previous study of energy-based seismic design method focused on total value of input energy,ignored the difference of input energy time histories.When the equivalent volume of seismic energy was inputted into structure by the different way in the time axis,the structure response was quite distinct.In this paper,the input energy time history of elastic SDOF system was transformed into the time history of momentary input energy,and an identification method for calculating the time segment (momentary input energy duration) in which momentary input energy is most centralized was proposed.Based on the concept of momentary input energy duration,average intensity of energy input (AlEI) which used to describe the characteristics of energy input process is defined,and the relationship between AIEI and structural displacement response of elastic SDOF systems were investigated.The results showed that the displacement process displayed an impulsive type when the structural natural period is close to the characteristic period (corresponding to the peak AIEI in AIEI spectra),and a periodic type when the natural period is far from characteristic period.The characteristic period is increased,and the peak AIEI is decreased with the V/A ratio of ground motion.
