STRESS & STRAIN ANALYSIS OF SPECIALLY SHAPED RC COLUMN IN ELASTIC-PLASTIC STATE

  When designing the reinforced concrete column,it is a key step to determine stress and strain distribution on cross section under specified load,a practical and efficient algorithm is proposed in this paper for reinforced concrete column with irregular cross-section.The algorithm,based on plane section assumption,uses a linear expression with three parameters to describe strain field on the section,and thus establish three equilibrium equations (the axial force and the bending moments in two directions) to determine the strain field parameters via iteration,so as to obtain stress distribution on the section.The iterative process can be simply expressed as follows:first,assume an effective area (e.g.the entire section) to establish equilibrium equations,and solve it to find the parameters of strain field; then,determine a new effective area according to the strain field,and thus establish a new equilibrium equations to derive new strain field parameters; This iterated process is executed until it meets the convergence criteria.This algorithm can be applied to ordinary nonlinear constitutive law for concrete and steel bars.This paper has demonstrated two calculation cases of L-shape section and single-box with double-cell section,together with the convergence curve for corresponding calculation process.
