TIME-DEPENDENT BEHAVIORS OF PRESTRESSED CONCRETE TRACK BEAMS UNDER SUSTAINED LOADS
Experimental and analytical studies are conducted to investigate time-dependent behaviors of 5 prestressed concrete track girder models (1:5) of urban light rail for 3000 days. The research is carried out with an emphasis on effects of types of concrete, methods of tensioning, stress differences between upper and lower fibers of midspan sections on long-term deflections, strains, curvatures of the midspan sections of the models.Theoretical formula based on the compatibility of strains and equilibrium of forces was presented to predict the long-term deflections of the prestressed concrete beams. In addition, based on the Age-adjusted Effective Modulus Method (AEMM),a step-by-step finite element analysis program was developed to predict the long-term behaviors of prestressed concrete beams. The deflections at midspan predicted by the formulas and the program were compared to the measured responses of the beams tested in the laboratory, with close agreement being observed.
