SEISMIC RESPONSE CONTROL OF RETICULATED SHELL BY USING SEMI-ACTIVE FRICTION DAMPER

The mitigation of the earthquake-induced vibration of a reticulated shell is conducted in this study based on friction dampers. The mechanical model of semi-active friction damper is firstly illustrated and the finite element model of a reticulated shell is constructed.A semi-active control strategy is developed based on fixed increment of controllable damper.A real reticulated shell is taken as the example to investigate the feasibility and reliability of the proposed control approach. The parametric investigation is carried out to examine the effects of brace stiffness on the control performance. The made observations demonstrate that the semi-active friction damper can be utilized in the earthquake-induced vibration control of shells because of its simple configuration as well as satisfactory energy-dissipating capacity. The performance of two kinds of damper schemes is satisfactory. The control performance of the scheme No.2 is better than that ofscheme No.1.
