FREE VIBRATION OF A SIMPLE CABLE-NETWORK-DAMPER SYSTEM
Cross-ties and dampers are counter-measures for cable vibration mitigation,but the vibration mitigation mechanism of cable-network-damper system has not fully understood yet,and optimal design method of cable-network-damper system is still not well established.This paper studies a simple cable-network-damper system which is comprised by two symmetric damped cables connected by a spring.Based on displacement continuity and force equilibrium equations,frequency equation of the cable-network-damper system is obtained.It is found that there are two kinds of solution branches of this simple cable-network-damper system; one relates the two cables vibrates in phase,the other one in reverse.Effects of spring stiffness and location on maximal damping coefficient are discussed; the variation patterns of corresponding frequency and optimal damper coefficient with spring stiffness and location are further addressed.
