NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF FIRE-DAMAGED COLUMNS STRENGTHENED BY CROSS-SECTIONAL ENLARGEMENT
An analytical model is presented to calculate the load carrying capacity of concrete columns strengthened by enlarging the cross-sections after fire exposure. The calculated column temperatures and load carrying capacities are compared with those measured. The results indicate the capability of the analytical model to predict the temperatures, and the load carrying capacities of the strengthened column with accuracy adequate for structural practice. The model enables the determination of the load carrying capacity of a strengthened column after high temperature exposure for different values of the significant parameters, such as the load, eccentricity, original column dimension, the depth of the strengthening concrete, concrete strength, the time-temperature curve in the furnace, and the percentage of reinforcing steel, without the need for testing.
