EXPERIMENTAL AND ANALYTICAL STUDIES ON TORSION OF BRBS

This paper presents experimental and analytical studies on the torsion of partly-welded buckling-restrained brace (BRB),which is originally designed to improve its low-cycle fatigue performance.Three partly-welded specimens under the low-cycle fatigue tests are used to verify the torsion buckling of the unrestrained part.Test results and failure modes show that the plastic torsion buckling of the end region, one of the possible buckling failure modes, which was observed during the test. The occurrence of the plastic torsion buckling is related to the axial load amplitude. The analytical formulas can predict the plastic torsion buckling.
