M-RAY RETURN-TO-ZERO OPTICAL PULSE AMPLITUDE MODULATION FOR VISIBLE LIGHT COMMUNICATION

In order to increase the data transmission rate in a visible light communication system under the bandwidth is limited and meet the users requirements for light dimming control and flicker mitigation,a novel method of M-ray Return-to-Zero Optical Pulse Amplitude Modulation (MRZOPAM) is proposed as a candidate modulation scheme for indoor visible light communication (VLC) systems. The method is to make the MRZOPAM wave forms amplitude between adjacent source gray data as narrow as possible than traditional pulse amplitude modulation (PAM).MRZOPAM code properties are discussed, and dimming control methods, symbol error rate simulation curves are presented and analyzed. It is shown in the thesis that the MRZOPAM technology is feasible and can achieve bandwidth efficiency as well as flicker mitigation and dimming control for indoor communication environment.
