Analyses of Potential Safety Hazard of Tailings Reservoirs in China
The paper summarized the current situation of tailings reservoirs in China and found that those widely scattered,small-scale and informally designed reservoirs have little ability to prevent environmental emergencies.Tailings dam-break accidents have occurred frequently in the past few years.The paper further analyzed the causes of dam-break,and through summarizing the serious dam-break accidents and analyzing the relevant policies and regulations since 2006,the paper came to the conclusion that the policies and regulations have been enriched continuously in the past few years and safe management of tailings reservoirs have achieved profound progress,however,the task is still arduous and some countermeasures for preventing the potential safety hazard of tailings reservoirs are urgently needed.
