Study on Release of Pollutants from Phosphate Flotation Tailings
Release of pollutants from the tailings generated by two typical flotation processes of phosphorus ore was studied by batch equilibrium experiments. The results showed that the equilibrium time of phosphate leached from the tailings by sole reverse and direct-reverse flotation processes were 2 and 1 hours, respectively, and both equilibrium concentrations of phosphate were 0.65 ±0.05mg/L.Final pH of the leachate maintains neutral to weakly alkaline levels despite of variations in the initial pH.Collectors used in the flotation processes contribute majority of the organic pollutants in the tailings, the release of which is accelerated by acidic conditions.More leaching times are needed for the complete release of organics from the tailings by direct-reverse flotation processes than by sole reverse flotation processes due to comparatively more addition of collectors in the direct-reverse flotation processes.
