To Maintain National Security and Promote Soft Power--Evolvement of Overseas English Promotion Policy Objective by U.S.Federal Government
The spread and promotion of language and culture is an important source where soft power can be derived.The overseas English promotion by U.S.federal government and the development of cultural relations policy is closely linked.Being an integral component of cultural relations policy,the overall objective of language promotion policy is in line with that of cultural relations policy,that is,to spread U.S.culture,values and social system in order to promote national soft power and maintain national security.Whats more,to fit in with the cultural relations policy objective in different periods,the language promotion policy goal undergoes a veer-from cultural defense to cultural attack.
