Wetland Restoration Guidelines-Policy Development Experience from the ACEDP Wetlands Project in China
There is increasing recognition in China that the intensification of agriculture and rapid economic development are compromising wetland ecosystem services. To address this issue the national Government is developing and implementing a range of policy responses.Over the past decade, the Chinese and Australian Governments have developed a partnership program for environment and development focused on water resources. In the past two years, under this partnership, there has been a collaborative project to develop policy guidelines for wetland management. This has covered the management of Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention listed sites),development of National Wetland Parks and wetland restoration. This paper provides an overview of this project with a focus on the Wetland Restoration Guidelines and wetland management in Ningxia.
